16. Applications:

Methyl salicylate has a strong smell similar to wintergreen. When used as a spice, it is often used as a flavoring agent for oral medicine and paint in pharmaceutical preparations. It is also used in medicine, and other oral medicines such as chewing gum and mouthwash are also used. Methyl salicylate is also used as a solvent and intermediate for the manufacture of insecticides, fungicides, fragrances, paints, cosmetic inks, and fiber dyeing aids. Methyl salicylate reacts with ammonia water to produce salicylamide, which is used in the production of antipyretic and analgesic drug ethylsalicylamine.
